About the Word Counter

Word Counter gives you a live count of words, characters, sentences, and paragraphs as you type or paste — no button to click, no waiting. It also estimates reading and speaking time, checks your text against common social media and meta-tag character limits, and includes a quick case converter — all running entirely in your browser.

Features

How to Use

Type or paste your text into the box — every count updates instantly. Pick a platform from the character-limit dropdown to see exactly how many characters you have left. Use the case buttons to reformat your text in place, then copy it when you're done.

Benefits

Frequently Asked Questions

How is word count calculated?
Text is split on whitespace, and empty fragments are ignored — so extra spaces or line breaks between words don't inflate the count.

Is my text stored or sent anywhere?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is uploaded, logged, or saved — not even the uploaded .txt file content.

What's the difference between characters with and without spaces?
"Characters" counts every character including spaces and line breaks. "No Spaces" removes all whitespace first — useful for platforms that count only visible characters.

How is reading time calculated?
Reading time uses an average adult silent-reading speed of 225 words per minute; speaking time uses an average speaking pace of 140 words per minute. Both are estimates — actual time varies by reader and content.

Does emoji or non-English text count correctly?
Yes — character counts are Unicode-aware, so emoji and accented or non-Latin characters are each counted as one character rather than being split incorrectly.
