Free crop or locked ratios — 1:1, 16:9, 9:16 — plus rotate, all at full resolution.
Whether you need a square profile photo, a 16:9 banner, or just want to trim a photo down, Image Crop Tool gives you a draggable crop box with locked-ratio presets — all processed locally in your browser.
Upload an image, then drag the crop box or its corner handles to select the area you want. Choose Free for any shape, or lock to 1:1, 16:9, or 9:16. Use Rotate left/right before cropping if needed, then download.
Locking a ratio keeps the box proportional while you drag its corners, so you never end up with a stretched result.
Crop to remove empty space and bring attention to the subject. Leave a little room in the direction a person is facing or moving, and avoid cutting off hands, feet or the top of the head awkwardly. Straighten tilted photos with the rotate buttons before cropping so the final edges look level. The downloaded file is rebuilt from your original resolution rather than the smaller on-screen preview, so cropping does not reduce quality beyond the pixels you remove.
After cropping, reduce the file size with Compress Image for web use, or change format with the Image Format Converter. For ID or visa pictures with exact dimensions and background rules, the Passport Photo Maker is the better tool, and our guide on passport photo rules explains why. To protect pictures you plan to publish, add a mark with Image Watermark. If you want to change what is behind a subject, try the AI Background Remover. Cropping runs fully in your browser.
Does cropping reduce image quality?
No — the download is reconstructed from your original file at full resolution, regardless of how the on-screen preview looks.
Can I crop on my phone?
Yes — dragging the crop box and handles works with touch as well as a mouse.
