About the Meta Tag Generator

Getting meta tags right across title, description, canonical, Open Graph, and Twitter Card all at once is easy to get wrong by hand. Meta Tag Generator builds all of them together with a live preview of the exact HTML you'll paste into your page.

Features

How to Use

Fill in your title, description, and other fields — the Open Graph and Twitter Card tags reuse your title/description automatically. Copy the generated HTML or download it, then paste it into your page's <head>.

Benefits

What each tag does

  • Title: the clickable headline in search results. Keep it under about 60 characters so it is not cut off.
  • Meta description: the summary under the title. Around 120 to 160 characters works well; it does not directly rank pages but influences clicks.
  • Canonical: tells search engines which URL is the main version of a page, which prevents duplicate-content confusion.
  • Robots: directives such as index/noindex and follow/nofollow control how a page is treated.
  • Open Graph and Twitter Card: control the title, description and image shown when your link is shared on social platforms and messaging apps.

Common mistakes to avoid

Do not copy the same title and description across many pages; each page needs its own. Make the canonical an absolute URL that matches the address you want indexed, and do not canonicalise a page to a different page unless you really mean it. Be careful with noindex: leaving it on a live page removes it from search results. Social images are best at about 1200 × 630 pixels. The old keywords tag is ignored by major search engines, so do not spend time on it.

How to use the output

Fill in the fields, check the live preview, then copy or download the HTML and paste it inside the <head> section of your page. After publishing, check the page with a search-console inspection tool and a social share preview. Pair this with the Robots.txt Generator to control crawling, and the Keyword Density Checker to review the text itself. Planning content ideas? Try the Keyword Generator, and use the Word Counter to check title and description lengths. Everything is generated locally in your browser.
