About Unlock PDF

Unlock PDF removes password protection from a PDF you already have the password for — useful when you no longer need a document restricted, or want to share a cleaner copy internally. This tool requires the correct password; it does not attempt to guess, crack, or bypass a password you don't know.

Features

How to Use

Upload the protected PDF, enter its password, and tap Unlock PDF. Download the result — it will open in any PDF reader without prompting for a password.

What this tool does and does not do

Unlock PDF removes the password from a file when you already know that password. It supports both kinds: the user (open) password that is requested when you open the file, and the owner (permissions) password that restricts printing, copying or editing. It does not guess, crack or bypass unknown passwords, and it will not help with files you are not entitled to open. If the PDF is not actually protected, the tool tells you.

When unlocking is useful

  • You protected a document years ago and no longer need the password.
  • You want to merge or split a file, and those tools cannot read encrypted PDFs.
  • A bank statement or form arrived with a password you were given, and you want an unprotected copy for your own records.
  • Printing or copy-paste is blocked by a permissions password you know.

Safety and good practice

An incorrect password produces a clear error, so you can retry. Unlocking happens locally in your browser, so neither the document nor the password is sent to a server. After unlocking, treat the new copy as unprotected: store it somewhere safe or lock it again with Protect PDF, which adds AES-256 encryption. You can then combine files with Merge PDF, extract pages with Split PDF or reduce size with PDF Compress. Always respect copyright and the owner's wishes when removing restrictions from someone else's document.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this crack or recover a password I don't know?
No. This tool only removes encryption from a PDF when you supply the correct existing password. It cannot recover, guess, or bypass a password you don't have.

Is my password sent anywhere?
No. Everything happens locally in your browser using the Web Crypto API. Your password is used only in memory to decrypt the file and is never transmitted, logged, or stored.

What if I enter the wrong password?
You'll see a clear "incorrect password" message and can try again — nothing is downloaded until the correct password is confirmed.
